The great Roman fort at Houseteads will take you a mile or so out of your way, but for a real appreciation of the Roman Wall a visit here is essential. The fort is high on the hillside, with fine views of the Northumberland moorlands to north and south. There is a small museum and plenty of supporting information to help you be clear what you are looking at. At Bardon Mill the two brick chimneys of the mill are still standing. The buildings are used as a modern pottery business with a brick bake house.

The Inn is set amongst some of the most breathtaking scenery in England and stands in the shadows of Steel Rigg, without doubt one of the most dramatic parts of Pennine Way & Hadrian's Wall. The Twice Brewed Inn is close to all the main Roman sites - Vindolanda, Housesteads and the Roman Army Museum. Midway between Carlisle and Newcastle. Take the B6318 (millitary Road) which runs alongside Hadriens Wall. The Inn is next to the Twicebrewed infomation centre.

Hadrian's Wall was designated a World Heritage Site in 1987 and is the most important monument built by the Romans in Britain. It is the best known frontier in the entire Roman Empire and stands as a reminder of one of the world's greatest civilisations. Located closely is The Old Repeater Station, a large detached stone building near the most scenic part of Hadrian's Wall. The Old Repeater Station offers 3 star Visit Britain rated guest accommodation in the heart of a National Park within Northumberland. It is just 200 yards from Hadrian's Wall and provides an excellent base to explore the beautiful scenery and historic sites of Northumberland. Located within Northumberland National Park with easy access to the Lake District and Kielder Reservoir. The Old Repeater Station is well situated for a visit to Northumberland. Hadrian's Wall is minutes away and the famous sites of Housesteads, Vindolanda and Chesters are all within four to five miles. The historic market towns of Hexham and Haltwhistle are within eight miles. We are ideally situated for walkers and cyclists due to our close proximity to Hadrian's Wall. Drivers can leave their car here if preferred to visit sites along the Wall. The Hadrian's Wall bus service which calls at all the main Roman sites passes the front door. The Old Repeater Station is unique, a large detached stone building with a slate roof. The property makes extensive use of eco / green technology including geothermal heating and wood burning stoves. Our water comes from a private source for domestic usage and also heats the building via a ground source heat pump. Lift from Pennine Way available at a small cost. Please arrange 24 hours in advance.
