About Bampton There is a public telephone here. There is a pub here. There is a grocery shop here. There is a post office here.
Overlooked by cliffs, Bampton is a small hamlet sitting on the edge of the Lowther Valley in Eden. It mirrors its 19th century past when it served the local needs of the villagers and surrounding farms. It still has a grocery, post office, a tearoom, and a 17th century pub. A sports day for local parents and children is held in June. A pleasant and useful stopping point followed by Orton, for those wishing to break the Patterdale to Kirkby Stephen section into 3 rather than 2 days.
