Comments by walkers who stayed at Buck Inn Hotel in Chopgate on The Cleveland Way
A very well organised place to stay, and with a firiendly staff. The evening meal was delicious. As I had a servere cold, the landlady even helped me with some of her own remedies.
the complimentary lift to and fro the track helped a lot

Highly recommended. They picked us up at Clay Bank and drove us back to the trail head the next morning. Excellent evening meal.

The premiere walker friendly place ! My friend and I stayed here whilst walking the Cleveland Way. Wolfgang, Helen and the staff went out of their way to help we poor disheveled walkers deal with mishaps, injury and poor planning. Miraculously a raincoat appeared at our door, offered by Helen. Ice for swollen, painful muscles was plentiful. Trays for muddy, wet boots were right at each room door. A lift to the trail head was forthcoming without our having to ask. The creamiest of porridge and tastiest cooked breakfast ensured we were off to a great start. We would highly recommend this place to anyone walking the coast to coast or Cleveland Way !

There are no easy options for accommodation at the end of this day on the Cleveland Way. They all involve a walk from the trail. However, The Buck exceeded our expectations. The room was fine, but not luxurious, and the accommodation wing looked a bit tired, but all ok for a couple of blokes after a hard days walk. The food and beer, however, were excellent. The menu was surprisingly imaginative, the service good, and the breakfast the next morning was top-notch. They also made us a packed lunch, which was essential in view of the distance to the next food-stop. The hosts are trying hard, and the restaurant was pretty busy for such an isolated spot.

We had the pleasure of staying a few nights at the Buck Inn in April 2011. Wolfgang and Helen (and Bonny the beautiful black giant Schnauzer) were very welcoming and hospitable.

Wolfgang and Helen are trying to introduce a more sophisticated international menu with more interesting options on the normal bar menu and regular international theme nights (Italian, Spanish etc). We experienced the Spanish cuisine evening, which also featured a hosted Spanish wine tasting to accompany each course... an excellent night!

The accommodation and food was excellent and we enjoyed toasting our toes in front of the open fire after travelling down from the Scottish Highlands.

Overall, highly recommended.
